Inspired By Horses

Jackie Archer

I’m a UK-certified integrative psychotherapist, trauma-informed coach, certified in somatic parts work, and a Certified Equus Coach®. My work today brings together years of professional psychotherapeutic experience with a lifelong relationship with horses.

I grew up in Texas, where horses were part of everyday life. I lived on a working ranch, and the horse then was a tool to be used and treated as such.

As I grew, that narrative began to shift - as did my experiences with horses. I owe great thanks to Justine Harrison, an equine behaviorist in the UK, who rescued the relationship between my then heart horse (who at times, I genuinely believed was just stubborn, dangerous, and ill-mannered), Warrior, and me.

She was able to teach me something profoundly simple and deeply transformative. That the horses' behavior was never about them being “difficult” or “disrespectful,” it was about how I was showing up in the relationship with them. They were simply responding to my energy in their presence.

That realisation changed everything!

Horses taught me how to slow down, to listen beyond words, and to take responsibility for my own energy and how I was communicating. They showed me that clarity, consistency, and regulation create trust, and that when something goes wrong, or I feel reactive, it’s often an invitation to look inward rather than push the horse harder or act out in frustration or anger.

My professional path began to slowly grow from this understanding and applied ethology concepts. Alongside my training in psychotherapy and somatic parts work, I trained as an Equus Coach so that I could offer others the same opportunity that I was blessed to have experienced and to see themselves more clearly, without judgment and without needing to “get it right.” A beautiful opportunity to play with their own energy and to have instant feedback from the horse, without judgement or consequence.

I now create a grounded, relational, and compassionate space where people can notice their patterns, understand their internal responses, and reconnect with a more authentic sense of self.

Whether working one-to-one, with couples, or in groups and organisations, my focus is always the same: awareness first, choice second, and change that feels honest and sustainable.

I remain deeply grateful to the horses who continue to teach me, again and again, that relationship is everything.

My Ethos

"Know yourself first."

When you know yourself, you stop operating on autopilot. You start making choices rather than repeating patterns.
