Overview
We offer this structured and experiential approach to therapy for young people who may have struggled to engage with traditional forms of talk therapy in the past. It is also a gentle alternative for young people in alternative education, with ASC/ADHD and developmental delay.
Sessions are professionally facilitated by Jackie, Natural Wisdom's founder and registered psychotherapist. All sessions are ground-based interactions with horses. No riding is involved.
This service is regularly accessed through schools, educational psychologists, local authorities, and private referrals.
Locations
Northwich, West Cheshire
Preston, Lancashire
Benefits
• Anxiety and emotional overwhelm
• Low self-esteem or confidence
• Difficulties with emotional regulation
• Behavioural challenges in school or home environments
• Social and communication difficulties
• School avoidance or disengagement from education
• Attachment and relational difficulties
• Neurodivergence, including young people with EHCPs
For many young people, the process helps them better understand their responses to challenge, build resilience, and develop healthier ways of relating to others through structured interactions with the horses.
Horses provide immediate feedback, helping kids develop trust and confidence within themselves, whilst learning essential skills that can be applied to real-world experiences and relationships.

Outcomes & Benefits
This service may form part of a wider therapeutic plan and can be commissioned by schools, local authorities, educational psychologists, or through private referral.
We support the wider educational, emotional, and developmental goals for young people. Sessions are designed to complement existing support plans and may contribute toward outcomes identified within EHCPs, pastoral support plans, or therapeutic interventions.
The experiential nature of the work allows young people to practise skills such as emotional regulation, communication, and boundary awareness within a structured and supported environment. These skills can then transfer into school, home, and social settings.
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy may support outcomes related to:
• Emotional regulation and wellbeing
• Social communication and interaction
• Building confidence and resilience
• Developing responsibility and independence
• Strengthening trust and relational skills
• Improving engagement with education
