FAQ's
What is Equus Coaching?
Equus Coaching is a unique, experiential process where a horse helps reflect your inner world — offering powerful insight, clarity, and emotional awareness. It’s not about learning to ride or care for horses. Instead, through groundwork interactions, the horse becomes a mirror, helping you better understand patterns, emotions, and behaviors that may be holding you back.
How is coaching different from therapy?
Both can be deeply supportive, but the orientation is different:
-
Therapy → past-focused, healing, emotional repair.
-
Coaching → present & future-focused, growth, forward movement.
Who is it for?
Equus Coaching is suitable for adults of all backgrounds. You don’t need any prior experience with horses — just a willingness to be present, curious, and open to learning.
What issues can Equus Coaching help with?
• Stress, burnout, or overwhelm
• Life transitions
• Confidence and self-trust
• Emotional awareness and regulation
• Boundary-setting
• Finding purpose or clarity
• Reconnecting with your true self
Costs
All services are invoiced and payable in British Pounds (GBP). Currency conversion fees, if applicable, are the responsibility of the client.

Is it therapy? You are a certified Psychotherapist.
My psychotherapy practice is UK-based only. My background as a UK-trained integrative psychotherapist means the work is deeply informed, trauma-aware, and grounded in nervous system understanding. And, while Equus Coaching sessions are not psychotherapy, my approach is deeply informed by my training as a psychotherapist. I bring a trauma-aware, somatic, and parts work-informed perspective to every session. My understanding of our unconscious processes, attachment, and relationship dynamics alongside the nervous system is foundational to my coaching practice.
Is there any research to back up this type of work?
100% and it's super interesting. Here are some cool facts that inform my practice.
1. Horses Have a Powerful Electromagnetic Heart Field
A horse’s heart generates a large, measurable electromagnetic field that extends several feet beyond their body. Research suggests this field can interact with the human nervous system, supporting calm, emotional regulation, and clarity when people are in close proximity to horses.
Research source: HeartMath Institute (cardiac electromagnetic field and heart–brain coherence research)
2. Horses Detect Subtle Emotional and Energetic Shifts
As prey animals, horses are biologically wired to detect minute changes in posture, muscle tension, breathing, emotional state, and intention. They respond to what is happening in the present moment, not to words or social masks.
Research source: Applied ethology and equine behavior science (prey animal neurobiology; equine sensory processing)
3. Human Regulation Influences Horse Behavior
When humans slow their breathing and move toward physiological regulation, horses often respond by softening, settling, or approaching. This reflects measurable physiological synchrony between humans and horses.
Research source: Heart rate variability (HRV) studies and human–horse physiological synchrony research in equine-assisted learning
4. Horses Offer Immediate, Non-Judgmental Feedback
Horses do not interpret stories, roles, or intentions. They respond directly to pressure, clarity, congruence, and boundaries in real time. This makes relational and leadership patterns visible instantly, often before a person can consciously name them.
Research source: Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) and experiential coaching research; behavioral response and pressure-release studies
5. Leadership in Horse Herds Is Based on Regulation, Not Dominance
Research into natural herd dynamics shows that leadership among horses is fluid and shared. Movement and cooperation are guided by trust, attunement, and nervous system regulation rather than force or hierarchy.
Research source: Applied ethology; wild and semi-wild herd studies (herd dynamics and social organization)
